Surprise Ruling Coming in Lindsay Lohan Case

The new judge overseeing Lindsay Lohan's criminal case is issuing a surprise, unspecified ruling on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports. The ruling will come one day before the prosecutor and Lohan's attorney were planning to attend a previously scheduled update hearing.

Los Angeles Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini said Judge Eldne Fox, who replaced Judge Marsha Revel a few weeks ago, would issue the mystery ruling on Tuesday afternoon. Parachini had no additional information.

Judge Revel originally sentenced Lohan to 90 days in jail and a 90-day inpatient rehabilitation program on July 6 for violating probation on an old DUI case. She ended up serving only 14 days due to good behavior and overcrowding at the jail. She is currently in the middle of the 90-day rehab program.

TMZ reports that several sources expect Lohan to be released early from rehab--maybe even this week--and tomorrow's ruling might be step one. It's been speculated that Lohan was originally misdiagnosed and the full 90 days of treatment won't be necessary.

Facebook Execs and 'Social Network': Not Friends

PopEater

Heard about that little website founded in a Harvard dorm room that soon made status updates, friend requests, and stamping "Like" on comments a daily part of modern life? 'The Accidental Billionaires,' Ben Mezrich's controversial book about the founding of Facebook, has been adapted into an already controversial movie, out this fall: 'The Social Network,' written by Aaron Sorkin, directed by David Fincher ('Fight Club'), and starring Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Now, a new report exposes the back-channel diplomacy between Facebook and producers of 'The Social Network,' and the desire of execs at the hugely popular website to ignore the movie when it opens Oct. 1. But can they?

In a New York Times article published this weekend, 'Social Network' producer Scott Rudin talks about his largely futile attempts to involve Facebook, or at least obtain their tacit blessing on the film -- which depicts Zuckerberg as an ambitious player and willing betrayer of his cohorts, while also capturing the enormous achievement of his vision. Now 26, Zuckerberg declined to comment for the article.

With no apologies, Rudin says Zuckerberg is "simultaneously a builder and a destroyer." He adds, "It's a big subject. It's a big American subject." (Zuckerberg doesn't seem to think it is. He told ABC'sDiane Sawyer in July, "The real story is actually probably pretty boring....We just sat at our computers for six years and coded.")

And what's Sorkin's take on his hero/antihero? The script leaked online clearly portrays Zuckerberg as a 19-year-old brainiac with nothing more than a motivation to be accepted socially, and the tech savvy to make it happen. Much of the story is reportedly based on depositions in cases (settled by Zuckerberg and his company's attorneys) that were filed in efforts to vie for a stake in Facebook.

According to the Times, David Kirkpatrick, author of 'The Facebook Effect' (which is not source material for 'The Social Network'), insists that too many details in the movie are fictional and "horrifically unfair." And Chris Hughes, a Facebook cofounder who left the company three years ago, concurs: "All of a sudden Mark becomes this person who created Facebook to get girls or to gain power....That's not what was going on. It was a little more boring and quotidian than that."

Rudin says that during production, he reached out to show the script and a cut of the film to top Facebook execs, who he says "saw the movie a while ago, and they do not like it." Rudin admits the filmmakers did accomodate small requests for changes to the script, but says, "We made exactly the movie we wanted to make."

In recent weeks, Zuckerberg -- considered the youngest billionaire in the world -- has been consistently reluctant to even acknowledge 'The Social Network,' dismissing it as "a distraction" and insisting, "The movie is fiction."

Obviously this goes without saying, but anyone wanting to learn more about 'The Social Network' can always visit...its Facebook page.

Kate Winslet Steps Out with a New Man

Looking happy and healthy in London this weekend, Oscar winner Kate Winslet slipped on a little black dress to hit the town with her new boyfriend, British model Louis Dowler. Paparazzi snapped pics of the couple walking hand-in-hand and hopping inside a cab, laughing and relaxed after a night of dinner and clubbing. The actress and her second husband, director Sam Mendes, announced their separation in March after seven years of marriage (they have a 6-year-old son, and Winslet is also mom to a 9-year-old daughter from her first marriage).

Winslet, 34, reportedly met her new beau, also 34, through mutual friends at a party. Despitereconciliation reports describing Mendes, 45, as still in the picture, speculation about the actress' new romance escalated in early August when she was photographed alongside Dowler as he worked out shirtless in New York City. Last month, a source talked about Winslet's new relationship to U.K.'s News of the World: "They've been on lots of dates and get on really well....Louis has a good sense of humour and really is a lovely guy."

Dowler has modeled for Burberry ads with Kate Moss, as well as for British designer Paul Smith and Italian fashion house Canali. Meanwhile, his globe-trotting new love has been busy with location shoots in recent months, filming the Todd Haynes remake 'Mildred Pierce' (the 1945 original won Joan Crawford an Oscar) in Manhattan and an ad campaign for Swiss watchmaker Longines (costarring Indian beauty Aishwarya Rai) in Rome.

Madonna Sued Over Her Material Girl Clothing Line

PopEater

Madonna's foray into fashion with her daughter has hit a sudden snag.

Madonna had partnered with daughter Lordes Leon to launch the Material Girl juniors line in partnership with Macy's earlier this summer. According to our partners atRadarOnline.com, the California-based clothing manufacturer L.A. Triumph slapped Madonna with a lawsuit on Aug. 19, claiming it's been using the registered Material Girl name on its own juniors clothing range since 1997, selling the goods in big retailers such as Nordstrom.

In court documents posted on Radar, L.A. Triumph says,"Between 1997 and present day, L.A. Triumph and its predecessor have sold millions of dollars of the Material Girl brand of clothes in commerce throughout the United States and have spent large sums in its promotion and advertisement."

The papers go on to explain that Madonna "improperly filed a United States Trademark Application for the Material Girl mark" in December 2009 and that the pop star's brand is now directly competing with -- and threatens to eclipse -- L.A. Triumph's label of the same name.
Though wasn't it Madonna who coined the term "Material Girl" -- it is her nickname after all -- when she released the 1985 hit song on her second album 'Like a Virgin'?

"Madonna and MGB's clothing line for young women has garnered significant press attention for its risqué advertising campaign," says the statement, referring to these Lourdes-styled ads featuring former "Gossip Girl" star Taylor Momsen.

"Plaintiff's Material Girl clothing line retails at the same general price point and in the same general retail space as the Defendant's infringing clothes."

The lawsuit also hints at next going after retailer Macy's for promoting Madonna's clothing line. Madonna and her team have offered no response.

Jake Pavelka Calls Vienna Romance 'Tragic' and 'Sad'

http://www.popeater.com

Beleaguered 'Bachelor' star Jake Pavelka rarely discusses his early Hollywood career, but he reportedly aspired to acting success at one time, landing a Chuck Norris movie in 2000 and a 'Walker, Texas Ranger' episode (according toIMDB) under the name "Jake Landrum." This Sunday, the controversial reality star makes his Lifetime TV debut on 'Drop Dead Diva' playing, you guessed it: a struggling actor who used a dating show to advance his career. Of the role, Pavelka tells PEOPLE: "I don't play myself. It's not a cameo...He's not a warm, compassionate guy." Meanwhile, off camera, he continues to reflect on his tumultuous engagement and headline-making breakup with Vienna Girardi -- who recently announced she's moved on with anew boyfriend she first met two years ago in the Bahamas.

The split with Girardi occurred while Pavelka, 32, was on the set of 'Diva' to shoot his scenes. In a new interview, he tells PEOPLE that he's had no communication with his ex since the relationship went down in flames, but that "it's okay, everything happens for a reason....Hopefully she'll find that guy she can spend the next 60 years of her life with." He insists,"The whole thing was tragic and it was sad....We'll probably let a little bit of time go by, but I'm sure someday our paths will cross and we'll be friends."

And is he thinking about stepping out soon with a new woman, now that he's single? Pavelka says, "I'm tip-toeing back over there....I haven't really met anybody that I wanted to date."

Shakira in Hot Water After Public Fountain Romp

http://www.popeater.com

Hips don't lie, but they can get a girl into trouble! After spotting YouTube footage of Colombian pop princess Shakira dancing in a public fountain with locals and riding a motorcycle without a helmet, officials in the city of Barcelona, Spain, are reportedly so irked by her raucous location shoot, they may fine her for a variety of infractions. Some sources say the singer even disrupted traffic with her sexy moves and bikini-based wardrobe.

The biker-chic video for her upcoming duet with Dizzee Rascal, 'Loca' (off the 33-year-old's next album, 'Sale El Sol'), has a decidedly break-all-the-rules vibe, but did Shakira really break laws? One authority reportedly told the press that she "did not even ask permission to film" the music video at various Barcelona locations -- including the historic fountain at Pla de Palau -- and that the amateur clips posted to YouTube will now be inspected closely to "detect infringements that have been committed during the recording."

Shakira is weeks away from launching her world tour in mid-September, and 'Sale El Sol' (she has described the Spanish-language album as having "a strong rock side") goes on sale November 2. Check out the splashy Barcelona antics that got her into trouble:

Hip-Hop's Most Unlikely Collaborations

http://www.popeater.com/

yesterday's news that Raekwon, Kanye West and Justin Bieber may be entering the studiotogether, it conjured up all the good, bad and terrible decisions emcees have made in the past when venturing outside their comfort zone. Some, like Run-D.M.C. and Aerosmith's 'Walk This Way' are undeniable, groundbreaking works, while others involve the Beach Boys fake-scratching turntables in the middle of Times Square.

Rappers talk about collaborations all the time that never materialize, so we're going to err on the side of that Chef/Yeezy/Bieb track never happening. Still, it's a good excuse to look back at some of rap's strangest meet-ups.
